After his exhausting match with Apollo Creed, Rocky settles down and marries girlfriend Adrian. When a period in TV commercials fails because he is unable to remember his lines and cannot read the boards being held for him, an embarrassed Rocky is forced to work for the meat packing company that Adrian's brother Paulie works/ When Rocky later gets laid off from the meat packing company, Adrian, who is now pregnant, tries to support them by continuing to work in the pet shop as the money starts to run dry.

Rocky returns to the gym as a caretaker role, and soon is taunted by Apollo Creed as his own fans accuse him of fixing the last fight, demanding a rematch. With his injured eye, Rocky is advised not to fight again but is left little option as money gets tighter and tighter, but Adrian gives no support thinking of her husbands health.

Adrian's lack of support starts to affect Rocky's training, much to Mickey's dismay and then disaster strikes as Adrian falls into a coma after giving birth to Rocky Jnr. Rocky stops training altogether during her coma, but when Adrian wakes up she gives Rocky a message, "Win"

Rocky with his new found confidence starts his training immediately and goes out to fight Creed in top condition and feeling on top of the world.
