• Apollo Creed starts as the heavyweight champion, bored with his current list of contenders. He gives an unknown - Rocky Balboa - a shot at his title in which he nearly loses. After a backlash from fans thinking it was a big set up, he gives Rocky another chance in which he loses the belt in Rocky II. Apollo returns to train Rocky in III and is eventually killed off after an exhibition match with Russian Ivan Drago.
