mike

A total scratch-master and unequalled in terms of beat-mixing, Mike came to prominence for the general public through his touring with the Beastie Boys but true heads know him from his work in the Dream-Team duo with Q-bert and the Invisible sKratch Piklz (ISP was the Dream-Team plus Triple Threat - ShortKut, D-Styles and Apollo). Australian back-to-back DMC champ Staen-1 will also be dropping a wild set. Be there.

He is also a founding member of the AKA brothers - who to the best of my knowledge had the first Australian hip-hop vinyl release.
S.A. heads would be familiar with Pac's verse's on 'Free Spirits' on Reason's Solid EP and on 'Nation's Finest' on After Hours' Different Rules Apply. He has also worked with Cannibal Tribe, DJ Ransom and was part of Konvoy 31 w. Reason, Def Wish and Die C.

Hilltop Hoods go gold !! The Calling has sold enough copies across Australia to become underground Australian hip-hop's first gold album.

As part of the celebrations Chris and Fats went over to the Obese block Party in Melbourne to watch the Hoods and the rest of the label including Pegz, Reason, Select, Torcha rip a great show on the Friday night. Cheers once again for the Vic. hospitality.

Speaking of inter-staters the Hospice Crew is coming to S.A. for a gig at Traffic - Stay tuned - it'll be a good one.

08/08/04 Self-Defence is finished !! Unfortunately we are not happy with the first version of the master, but we will be back in the studio in a couple of weeks to rectify this.
03/08/04 Confirmed: Snair and Kancel are going to enter the team comp at the National DMCs repping S.A. They'll be up against the Dirty Duo but I think they might turn some heads - GO FELLAS.
28/07/04

Congrats to the Defender's DJ Snair for finishing as runner-up in the South Australian DMC comp. He was first up on the night - never an easy thing - but ripped a tight set nonetheless.

The competition was pretty impressive with Blackwood boy Sum-1 wlking out the winner (again) with some pretty impressive scratching. DJ Kancel was placed 3rd - also a good set. Props to all the competitors - Stain1 from S.A. will be the defending champion at the Nationals -and going by the demo set he threw up at the comp he is going to be unstoppable.

12/07/04

OK been a while...

The Reason/Train of Thought show came off pretty good with all acts including Muphin ripping killer sets. We rocked entirely off of vinyl like we did at Gangstarr which was fun. If anyone has any pics then get in touch...

On another note fellow Crackhouse Member, Mark1 has released his solo album (CD only at this stage) AudioSyncracies -I got my copy on Saturday and it's a damn good release. Notable guest appearances include DJ Shortkut of the Invisble Skratch Pickles, DJ Flagrant, DJ David L and more.

It is being distributed through Obese Records - so you can order it online or cop it through stores..

22/06/04

A blinder of a weekend - a good friend of ours had a big birthday! We went to see Goose a 15 piece jazz-funk band with some of the cream of Adelaide's musicians in the line-up - including Damien Steele-Scott -possibly the greatest bassist in Australia. Anyone who remembers the New Rhythm Syndicate gigs at Cargo knows who this guy is.

Anyhow they have a webiste www.goose.com.au - check it.

Train of Thought "Moving Heads" CD Launch

Special Guests include: DJs Aldais, Hacksaw and Muphin (Vic)

Melbourne's MC Reason is one of the individuals responsible for taking Oz hip-hop to where it's at in the present day (Yeah you can take the blame Jase).

He has 2 solo releases already under his belt(Solid and Re—ography)and is on the Obese Records roster.

He is also a Defenders collaborator/co-conspirator having contributed a verse to the track Global Warming on the forthcoming release Self-Defence.

Chris produced track 6 on One Step Ahead - A Good Sport - and also played keys, bass and guitar on it.

Train of Thought hail from Blackwood in the Adelaide Hills - Defenders home territory. They made their debut at the X-bred Mongrels' World Domination CD launch and have proved themselves to be able to punch out a tight live set. Their debut album features guest appearances from Hilltop Hoods, Funkoars, After Hours, Bdeps and of course Fatface.
