Never Appear Idle
- Go to your buddy list
- Go to My AIM -> Edit Options -> Edit Preferences
- Go to the Privacy tab
- Uncheck "Allow users to see how long I've been idle
Monitor Your Warning Level
- Add yourself to your own buddy list
Chat Without Being Signed On
- Directly connect to the person(s) you want to talk
- Sign off
- Talk
URL To Add Someone
- URL = aim:AddBuddy?ScreenName=SCREENNAME&groupname=GROUPNAME
- Replace SCREENNAME with the person's screenname
- Replace GROUPNAME with the group name that you want the person to go
Find a Person's Screenname(s)
- Bring up your buddy list
- People -> Find a buddy -> By E-mail Address
- Type in the person's email address.
Break the Chat Limit
- Directly connect with someone
Remove Buddy List Ad
- Open Notepad (Start -> My Programs or All Programs(Windows XP)-> Accessories -> Notepad
- In Notepad, go to File -> Open
- Under Files of Type, select All Files
- Select "Look in" at the top, and go to C:\Program Files\AIM (may also be AIM95)
- Open "aim.odl"
- Search for:Search for:

and

Remove the contents of the two brackets. The result should look like this:

- Go to File -> Save
- Exit out of AIM completely by removing the AIM icon from your system tray (the icon at the bottom right corner of your screen)
- Sign on, and the add should be gone!

Download Older Versions of AIM
Remove a Screenname From the Login Screen
- Place your mouse over the screenname you want to delete
- Press Delete on your keyboard (this is NOT Backspace). Delete is directly diagonally across Enter on the top-right corner.
Chat While Sending Files
If you've sent files via Direct Connect, you've noticed that you cannot chat until the file is finishes downloading. This can be extremely frustrating for 56K users and their client because of the amount of time required to send files. - Click on the Setup at the bottom
- Right click on the group you want to alphabetize
- Select Sort
