2. There is a man on a mountain top who has
never had contact with human beings. He lives his entire life alone and dies
alone on top of that same empty mountain. Did he go to heaven, or hell?
This man will go to hell (assuming he is of normal
intelligence and there is nothing wrong with him except for being alone). I
say this because Jesus died on the cross for the sins of mankind. If this
hermit hasn't accepted Jesus' sacrifice for his life, then he will be cast
into the lake of fire for living a lifestyle contrary to what Christ
demands.
If you disagree, tell me of even one time in the Bible where God lowers the
standards He has set for his people to follow. God says that anyone
who repents of their sins and confesses that Jesus
Christ, the Son of God, died for their sins and believes it is true, will be
saved. Give me one time you know of that God has ever lowered this
standard, and I will rethink my theology.
Now, this is my own conclusion and you are welcome to disagree, but it seems pretty straight forward to me.
There
are many other ways to answer this question based on what has happened in
this man's life, though. Some people believe that even though the man is a hermit,
God will be sure to get the gospel to him in some way. Others believe that
the man will go to heaven because he had no idea that God even existed, so
why would God judge him in his ignorance?
There is a Bible verse that goes along with the last thought there.
Matthew 7:1 - "Judge not, that ye be not judged. For with judgment ye judge,
ye shall be judged..."
If you take this passage into a specific train of thought, then however the hermit
judged others, he will brought up before this standard at the Judgment Seat
of God. He did not know
God's standard, and shall be judged according to his own, then. But
tell me, what man has ever been able to live up to even his own standards?
God demands perfection, or salvation through the acceptance of Jesus'
sacrifice.
Choose whichever answer you like, but the first paragraph is the one that I
believe.
