Relativism

There's a belief system that's being pushed by the American culture called Relativism.  I'm sure that everyone has heard it's beliefs before, even though they may not know what it is, exactly.

To begin, nothing is inherently, morally right or wrong because nothing can be right or wrong without a standard to compare it to.  In Christianity, this standard is the word of God.  So, what happens if God's Word isn't accepted as a standard to compare things to?  Well, a personal definition of right and wrong would be needed.  That is what Relativism is; defining what is right and wrong by one's self.

According to relativism, nobody can know absolute truth.  This is because mankind sees things from a human's perspective.  What is right and what is wrong is relative to the person's perspective and it doesn't really matter what someone else thinks about my beliefs as long as I believe they are correct.  Likewise, it doesn't matter what I think about their beliefs because they are correct to believe whatever they want to.  The person who believes it's OK to molest children is just as right as the person who believes that the world is a cube.  This is a fundamental belief of relativism, save that I clearly pushed its limits.  But, there are always people who will fit into the extreme category of belief, but it is easy to see the repercussions of a belief so flexible.

The exact opposite of Relativism is Absolutionism.  Absolutionists believe that there is such a thing as right and wrong (it doesn't matter what it is, as long as it is an absolute).  Christianity is one type of Absolutionist belief.

Relativism is the second most prominent belief in America as of 2004.  Yes, it's that widespread.  Although Relativists have no foundation to allow them to argue their beliefs with other people, they are doing a good job at teaching their worldview in public schools.  A couple of reason why nobody should follow their belief are explained below.

Relativists are unable to argue for any of their beliefs.  They are just as right to believe whatever it is they believe as the Absolutionists are to believe their "facts". Relativists can never correct anyone in anything they do, either, because it is already correct.

It would be impossible to learn anything new, because learning presumes gaining new knowledge and adjusting false beliefs, but Relativism assumes their is no right way or wrong way to do things, therefore destroying the correction system of the learning process.  If Someone believes that gravity pulls upward, and they drop a ball and it falls downward, then a natural correction would be to adjust the false belief that the ball falls upwards.  Relativists can use their belief to say, "How do we know that the ball didn't go upwards?  Down depends on the definition and the point of view.  Maybe we are the ones who are upside down."

The biggest problem with Relativism is that when Relativists say that their is no right or wrong, they are making a statement of absolution.  This is impossible according to their belief.  So, as anyone can see, at the center of their belief system is an absolute statement.

If there is anyone who currently follows their life by the belief of Relativism, please look at the facts I have set before you and reconsider that belief.  Christianity has no loop holes in it and I challenge anyone to try and find one.  This, alone, is reason enough for me to follow its teachings, but there is so much more to Christianity if one chooses to learn about it.
