The following verses are printed directly from the King James Version of the bible.  Underneath each verse in italics is my interpretation of what the verse says, simplified for those of you that don't like Old English

Proverbs 11:2 - "When pride cometh, then cometh shame: but with the lowly is wisdom."

*When you become prideful then shame and ungodliness will follow.  But those that are humble will gain wisdom.*

Proverbs 13:10 - "Only by pride cometh contention: but with the well advised is wisdom."

*By pride comes contention and strife between men and nations, but those who hear counsel will act wisely and suppress it.*

Proverbs 16:5 - "Every one that is proud in the heart is an abomination to the Lord: though hand join in hand, he shall not be unpunished."

*People who are full of pride, thinking themselves to be better than other people, are an abomination to the Lord.  They will not go unpunished.*

1 Timothy 6:17 - "Charge them that are rich in this world, that they be not highminded, nor trust in uncertain riches, but in the living God, who giveth us richly all things to enjoy;"

*Do not become prideful, thinking that you are higher than anyone else on this earth.  Do not trust in the riches of this earth because they can be destroyed and never last forever, instead, trust in God.  He gives abundantly, and He gives us everything to enjoy.*

James 4:6 - "But he giveth more grace.  Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble."

*God doesn't like people who are prideful and think they are better than other people.  God gives grace to the people he sees as humble and meek.*

1 John 2:15-16 - "Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world.  If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him.  For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world."

*Do not love the world or anything in the world.  If anyone loves the world then the love of God isn't in him.  All that is of this world is corrupt and not of God: the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of your life.  If you love these things, you cannot love God.  God and the world are two opposite things.*
